Maternity & Nursing

Q. When should I buy my first Maternity bra in pregnancy?

A. As soon as your normal bras start to become uncomfortable! It's a good idea to get fitted for your first wirefree maternity bra about 6-8 weeks into your pregnancy, and again every 6-8 weeks following. It's a good idea to fit your first maternity bra on the tightest eye to allow for the growth of your breasts and your bump!

Q. When should I buy my first Nursing Bra?

A. It may be best to leave buying your nursing bra until 2-4 weeks before the birth to ensure an accurate fit. Don't forget to leave enough room for breastpads, and to allow for a small increase in breast size when your milk 'comes in'. Lengthening the strap slightly will also give a little more room in the cup for those very full moments before a feed. Of course you can always wear your nursing bra as a support bra during the last few weeks of your pregnancy, bearing in mind that your ribcage will shrink after birth.

Q. How will my size/breasts change & when?

A. You will start to notice changes in your breasts almost straightaway, and your changing body shape will mean your bra size can change a number of times during your pregnancy. Hormonal changes may also mean your breasts become more sensitive. Breasts may also feel 'lumpy' early on in pregnancy as the milk duct system develops.

Q. Why is support so important in pregnancy?

A. Because of the rapid changes happening to your body, it's really important to get a great fitting, supportive bra for this time of your life. Ill-fitting bras and bras with wires can damage the delicate breast tissue. The breasts contain no muscles so it is very important to make sure you are well supported to help to maintain good shape after birth.

Q. Where can I find advice on breastfeeding?

A. Please see our links page for organisations that may be able to advise you on feeding your baby.

Breastcare

Q. What sort of bra will I need post mastectomy

A. After breast surgery, a wirefree bra will be more comfortable than an underwired bra, which may irritate or dig into the delicate scar tissue. If you have had a mastectomy, and wish to wear a prosthesis our Caress range of pocketed bras will be ideal for your needs. Also available is our range of Comfort bras, perfect for those ladies who don't need pockets. Most of our Comfort bras can have left, right or bilateral pockets sewn in at a cost of 1.00 per pocket. It's important to make sure you are wearing the correct size bra after surgery, and many of our stockists specialise in fitting mastectomy and post-surgery bras.

A. Please see our links page for organisations that may be able to advise you on breastcare.

Q. Can you add a pocket to my bra?

A. We can add pockets to any Royce Comfort Style at a cost of 1.00 per pocket. We are unable to pocket our Impact Free Sports bra, or any bras from other brands.
