Being breast aware is about becoming familiar with the look and feel of your breasts, in order to detect any problems.

Remember the 5 Point Code

  1. Know what is normal for you
  2. Know the changes to look and feel for
  3. Look and feel
  4. Report any changes to you GP immediately
  5. Attend regular breast screenings when recommended by you GP

Things To Check For

It’s important to remember that most breast changes are not cancer related. Make breast awareness part of your daily routine in the bathroom or when getting dressed.

Size

If one breast becomes larger, changes shape or position

Rashes

On or around the nipple

Nipples

Any change in nipple position, discharge or bleeding

Skin Changes

Dimpling or puckering, changes to the surface of the breast

Pain

In any part of the breast or armpit

Lumps

Swelling, lumps or thickening to the breast area, armpit or around the collarbone (lymph nodes)

If you notice anything unusual or are worried, go to your GP.
