We’re all about timeless style at Royce, but switching up our wardrobes with a nod to the hottest trends helps keep things fresh. We spoke to personal stylist Emily Stott for the lowdown on this season’s must-have details, the material of the moment, the style revival, and the hot colour you’ll be seeing everywhere this summer.

“Only those living under a rock will have failed to notice that this softer, more wearable shade of yellow is the colour of the season,” says Emily. “It’s good news for fairer complexions as it won’t overwhelm when worn next to the face.
“However, if you’d rather dip your toe in the trend then go for a simple vest top worn under a denim jacket or a cute little bag or trainers in this colour.”
…and underneath: The thin, lightweight fabrics of summer are unforgiving when it comes to dark-coloured underwear, let alone butter yellow. However, just as with a white top, a white bra under pale yellow clothing tends to shine like a beacon. Instead, wearing a bra that’s closer to your skin colour will ‘hide’ better.
Medium to darker skin tones can try Posie in mocha, while lighter skin tones may be surprised to find that Maisie in rouge sits invisibly under pale colours or Georgia in beige.

Emily says, “If minimalism or neutral classics aren’t your style, then this season’s decadent ruffles are made for you. Featured on blouses, dresses, jackets and even accessories, a ruffle instantly elevates your look with a touch of glam rock.
“If you’d rather not add bulk to your bust, then wear your ruffles on your sleeve or around the hem,” she recommends.
…and underneath: This really depends on what’s happening on the upper half of your body. If you’re wearing ruffles around your neckline, you can probably get away with wearing whatever bra you wish as those dramatic ruffles will give you plenty of coverage.
You could add to the overall drama and wear Florentine, a soft red embroidered bra with matching briefs – it’s also non-padded so won’t add another layer of volume.

There are holes everywhere this summer, but Emily assures us that doesn’t mean we’ll end up exposing ourselves… “This latest revival can be worn at any age and any time of day thanks to clever linings and strategically placed pockets,” she says.
This trend works just as well with casual holiday wear as it does for smart occasions such as weddings. “A long lace or crochet maxi skirt also doubles up as a beach cover-up that won’t crease in transit. Meanwhile, a cotton broderie blouse or dress is the linchpin to an elegant and grown-up look that will transition from day to evening effortlessly,” suggests Emily.
…and underneath: The aforementioned lining and well-placed pockets will spare a few blushes, but it’s likely that the world will still get a slight peek of your bra. Make it work by picking bras in similar shades and lacy details such as Indie (in lilac or petrol blue), Robyn (in black or white), Georgia (in beige or black) and Charlotte (in black, blush, beige or white).

As most of us were there the first time around, so should we really go back? Fear not. Wearing this trend doesn’t mean full-on fancy dress. Emily believes this 1980s look is more a general vibe that makes sense of the pastel yellow, ruffles and lace, so use those ideas as your guide if you just want to wear a subtle nod or two to the decade.
If you’re keen to go a further, Emily recommends finding inspiration in films of the era: “Check out any of the popular ‘80s movies – Desperately Seeking Susan, St Elmo’s Fire, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – and you’ll quickly recognise outfits that wouldn’t look out of the place today. Who knew that lace gloves, scrunchies, pleated shorts, full skirts and strapless puffball dresses would suddenly look fresh again?”
…and underneath: A lot of styles came and went in the ‘80s, but bold colours, strong shapes and maximalism reigned. Be equally bold with your bra choices and try Zahra (with its zig zag lace design), Rosa (with its herringbone print and gold details) and workout like you’re following a Jane Fonda aerobics video with Aerocool (in emerald green or blackberry).
