Are big boobs really out of fashion? Not at Royce!

We’re still full of joy for ‘timeless’ fuller cups

Your boobs are a wonderful part of you and your fabulous body, right? Well, according to some people (not us, by the way), breasts are a fashion accessory. They are either in or out of fashion. And right now, trend commentators are declaring that big, bouncy boobs are out, and small, lighter “ballerina boobs” are in.

We’ll give you a moment to wipe away the tea you no doubt spat out when reading that ridiculous sentence. Because it seems crazy to us that your breast size either fits a seasonal trend or not. Perhaps you recently updated your wardrobe with a new polka dot dress or tomato red top (two big trends this summer), but did you also think to shrink your boobs to be really ‘on trend’ this season?

There’s been a lot of chatter in the media lately about how fuller cups and obvious cleavage look a bit passé right now. This follows news that the latest audit by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons shows that breast augmentation procedures in the UK have fallen by 8%, and demand for breast implant removal is rising. Breast enlargement is still the most popular operation with 4,761 procedures taking place in 2025, but breast reduction surgery is not far behind at 4,673.

There’s more than just fashion behind these figures: many women undertake breast surgery for all kinds of health reasons. But that hasn’t stopped the ‘big boobs are unfashionable’ message taking hold when it’s coupled with a stream of celebrities dressing their ‘delicate’ boobs for the red carpet. The Times columnist Shane Waston even pondered whether ‘le droop’ – the natural look of small, non-surgically enhanced boobs, glimpsed under sheer dresses or tuxedos at recent awards dos – is the “ultimate boob brag” for 2026.

If all of this sounds like yet another way to make women feel bad about their bodies, you’d be right. The idea that our body parts can fall in or out of fashion, is something journalist and novelist (and self-declared Royce Aerocool fan) Bryony Gordon has been ridiculing in her Daily Mail column: as she puts it, our boobs are not “accessories from Zara”.

We’re calling it: no boobs are ‘fashionable’ – whether big, small or anywhere in between – breasts are simply ‘timeless’, just like our bra designs. What women really need isn’t to shrink, squash or hide their big boobs, but support them in one of the best bras for fuller cups. A well-fitted bra that smooths the natural shape of your breasts, and offers all subtle engineering required to take the pressure off your back, neck and shoulders, will be something to want to wear every day, season after season.

3 tips for choosing the best bra for larger boobs

Match your bra to your life

Long gone are the days when the choice of fuller cup bra styles was limited, and bras for larger breasts were merely practical rather than stylish or sexy. Nowadays, bigger boobed women can wear fabulous bras that are great for the gym, suitable for work, perfect for lounging in, or fancy enough for date nights. Simply ensure it’s a style that makes you feel like you.

Check design details

Unsurprisingly, bigger boobs are heavier so can use a little extra help when it comes to lifting and carrying them. Well-considered details to look for include wide straps (more comfortable on the shoulders) and a wider than usual underband (contrary to what you may think, a bra’s underband provides more support than the straps). A full cup style and integrated side slings will minimise horizontal and vertical bounce and help keep those beauties from jiggling too much.

Get the perfect fit

We’ll keep saying this until we’re blue in the face, but your bra is useless to you if you’re wearing the wrong size. Most women misjudge their own bra size but that “once a 36D, always a 36D” attitude completely ignores weight loss/gain, changes post-pregnancy and in perimenopause and menopause, and natural fluctuations month to month (you may also want to consider double or triple cup-size bras if your boobs tend to fluctuate in size often). Make a date in your diary to either get measured in person by a professional bra fitter (many Royce stockists are the gold standard for this) or if you can’t attend an in-person fitting, follow our DIY fit guide and do it at home.
