Mothers and babies have always been close to our heart at Royce Lingerie (did you know that the National Childbirth Trust was our first customer?), so we’re always keen to get on board with World Breastfeeding Week when it comes around.
This year the awareness week, which runs from 1st to 7th August 2021, aims to highlight the huge benefits that breastfeeding can bring to both the health and welfare of babies and their mothers, as well as a wider push for maternal health, focusing on good nutrition, poverty reduction and food security.
According to research, global breastfeeding rates remain low with only 43 per cent of new-borns initiating breastfeeding within one hour of birth. Yet the physical and mental health benefits of breastfeeding are numerous: breast milk is perfectly designed for your baby and protects them from infections and diseases. Breastfeeding your baby can also protect you, lowering your risk of developing ovarian and breast cancer, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. It has also been known to keep post-natal depression at bay – the suckling of your baby on your breast releases oxytocin, also called the ‘mothering hormone’ or ‘cuddle chemical’, which helps your body provide milk to your baby while also lowering your blood pressure, stress and anxiety.
But we understand that breastfeeding isn’t for everyone. Many mothers struggle to breastfeed, for any number of reasons, and the loud cries of “Breast is Best!” just create more unnecessary pressure, leaving many mums feeling like they’ve failed. If you can’t breastfeed, you haven’t failed – you are still providing your baby with cuddles, comfort and love, just with a bottle. And bottle-fed babies get to bond with other parents and carers for a feed (giving you a break now and then).
We’ve teamed up with award-winning brand Close, who specialise in baby carriers, reusable breast pads and accessories, often made with organic or recycled materials, to help make parenting sustainable and stress-free.
Get your hands on our special Royce + Close ‘Blossom bundle’: buy a Blossom bra, Pop-In breast pads and pack of 3 extenders and save £10. The Blossom bra can be adjusted to accommodate three sizes, supporting you as your breast size fluctuates throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. The extenders also ensure your bra stays comfy, saving you from buying multiple bras in different sizes.
Keep an eye on our social media channels this week to be in with a chance of winning a Geo Blossom Bra, breast pads, and a virtual bra fitting with a Royce designer*.
