In this cost of living crisis we’re all conscious of the pennies. The bargain prices of cheap alternatives can look appealing when you’re trying to save money, but we all know the phrase ‘buy cheap, buy twice’, right?
When you can buy a multipack of high street-brand bras for the price of one Royce Lingerie bra, why would you choose to buy Royce? Because you get what you pay for! Here’s what you’re buying with a Royce bra:
We source high-quality fabrics and components (such as clips and clasps) to ensure our bras last longer. Cheaper materials suffer wear and tear more quickly, meaning you’ll be ordering more bras before you know it – it’s ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ in action.
Worn-out materials also mean your bras just don’t do a good enough job in supporting you. We select materials such as organic cotton and PIMA cotton not just because they’re exceptionally comfortable and soft against the skin, but also because they are the best fabrics for their specific job, whether they need to be strong enough to support fuller cup sizes or breathable and antibacterial for post-surgery chests.
We’re also moving towards our target of ensuring 20% of our range is made from sustainable materials by 2025 – organic cotton (found in Eden and Fearne), PIMA cotton (in Comfi-Bra and Grace) and responsibly-sourced cotton (found in Lola) isn’t the cheap option but these materials ensure a lower impact on the planet and better conditions for cotton growers.
As we shift towards a plastic-free future, we’re moving away from plastic components and seeking metal alternatives where possible – these may be a little more expensive but they are durable and better for the environment.
Many high street brands whittle their bra ranges down to Small, Medium and Large – we don’t. Manufacturing multiple sizes of each style is more expensive than simplifying an order to S, M and L, but women’s bodies don’t fit into three neat size categories.
We know how important it is to get the right fit to ensure you feel as comfortable and supported as possible. That’s why our bras come in a wide choice of sizes – from bands of 28 to 40, and cup sizes from AA to L.
Unlike many bra manufacturers, we don’t buy pre-made designs – all Royce bras are designed in-house by our talented design team. Because we create styles from scratch, we need to test all new ideas on real people. We ask pregnant and breastfeeding women to try out our prototype maternity bras; women undergoing breast or chest surgery volunteer to test our new post-surgery bras; sports bras are put to the test on real women working out.
The wear-testing, focus groups and market research is ongoing for each and every new bra, with feedback, re-designing and re-testing a long but incredibly valuable process. In the end, we can be sure we’ve created a fantastic product that does exactly what women need it to do.

We don’t just guess what our customers need, we make sure we’re on top of the latest news and research in areas such as breast cancer. In addition to focus groups and market research, we attend seminars, meetings and events to talk to experts in breast cancer care to hear exactly what women want.
We’re no ‘fast fashion’ company. As a small business we don’t benefit from the economies of scale that larger companies can, and we also have limited storage at our Banbury warehouse. Therefore, factory orders are smaller (and therefore more expensive) than our high street competitors.
But smaller orders also mean less wasted stock. No stock is taken to landfill – it remains in our warehouse until completely sold. Occasionally, our manufacturer may send us products that are not meeting requirements (such as incorrect liners, components or sizing), but we don’t ditch them. Our own machinists diligently make changes to each item in-house. Any bras that are beyond saving are donated to the bra bank (read all about Against Breast Cancer’s bra banks here).
You can find Royce bras in large high street stores such as John Lewis and Bravissimo, but we’re also very proud to be stocked in hundreds of independent shops across the country, and the world. Independent retailers are the lifeblood of local high streets, adding variety to shopping areas and expertise to your buying experience.
Support your local retailers by buying small and buying local. That way you know your money is staying within a circle of small businesses, supporting the local economy and paving the way for spending habits that have a lower impact on the planet and make a positive difference to your community.
Did you see us on ITV’s Lorraine last month? Award-winning lingerie stylist Monica Harrington appeared on the show talking about how to choose a bra after breast surgery. We’re delighted she recommended a couple of Royce Lingerie bras – she knows they are some of the best bras for women post-surgery.
