Our Blossom nursing bra gets some serious love from customers and Royce staff alike, so can you really improve on perfection? With our new launch, yes you can!

Breastfeeding can be glorious, messy, satisfying and frustrating all at the same time. While you grapple with feeds, what you really don’t need is a frumpy looking nursing bra that’s fiddly to use and doesn’t fit your boobs, which are full to bursting one minute, then sagging and empty the next. This is why our Blossom nursing bra has remained such a favourite of pregnant and breastfeeding mums for years. And now our best-selling maternity and nursing bra has just got even better – with some smart design tweaks, our new and improved Blossom bra is now available to buy!

If you love its innovative two-way design (wear in a crop top style, or ruche the middle for a plunge neckline), don’t worry, Blossom is still the same beautiful design. We’ve also kept the invaluable triple cup-sizing (up to a JJ cup) so it adjusts perfectly during pregnancy and breastfeeding as breast size fluctuates. But new Blossom now comes with a padded 5-hook-and-eye fastening for extra adjustability to fit your changing body; smoother edging around the neck and underarm for superb comfort and a modern finish; and a stylish new black animal herringbone print design.

Why Blossom was a breastfeeding essential for Royce mums

Blossom nursing bras aren’t just a firm favourite with customers; it was the go-to maternity bra for the mums at Royce HQ.

“I tried lots of different nursing bras while breastfeeding, but Blossom was by far the most comfortable and convenient,” explains marketing manager Claire Boote. “The adjustable front was honestly a lifesaver when my milk came in. My boobs were huge at first, and they changed so much in size after each feed, so being able to adjust the bra kept everything comfy.

“The T-shirt style bras I tried didn’t adapt at all, I’d end up bulging out of the cups! That’s why I always found myself going back to my Blossom bra.”

Design manager Gemma de Diego also loved the triple sizing, adding, “I lived in my Blossom bra when breastfeeding my daughter, it was so comfortable. I loved the soft fabrics and adjustable front especially at the beginning when my milk came in and I would sometimes wake up really engorged. The triple cup sizes were such a gamechanger compared to conventional bras for my fluctuating breast size.”

What happens to your boobs when breastfeeding?

If you’re currently nursing your little one, or are pregnant and planning to do so, you’re no doubt getting swamped with advice and tips on what to expect. The breastfeeding journey can look different for everyone, and even different with each child (the first may be a struggle, while the second is a breeze, or vice versa).

But for Claire and Gemma, what was the most surprising effect breastfeeding had on their boobs that perhaps they wished they’d known beforehand?

“I was really surprised by how quickly mastitis can come on and make you feel so unwell,” admits Claire. “When my son was three weeks old, I was a bridesmaid at my dad’s wedding. The dress didn’t work with my nursing bra, so I went without one (not my best idea!). I ended up missing a feed—my son had a bottle, so he was fine—but I couldn’t pump as I was at the ceremony. I became really engorged, and that’s when mastitis hit. I felt so poorly that I had to leave the party and sleep. I did manage to rejoin the celebrations but this time I was wearing my nursing bra and giving my son his usual regular feeds (we were in the cluster feed stage at this point). My advice for any nursing mother is, always wear a wirefree bra!”

Gemma also suffered from discomfort: “I wasn’t prepared for how sore my nipples would get in the first six to eight weeks, but I found soothing lanolin patches were amazing. It then shocked me just how quickly it took me and my daughter to work out what we were doing once my milk had sorted itself out.

I woke up one morning and it just worked. I found it so much easier to get out and about without having to ensure I had enough bottles for feeds. I was so happy that I managed to push on and get through those first six weeks.” Shop for new and improved Blossom, browse our full range of maternity and nursing bras, and read our Q&A for straight forward advice on selecting the best maternity bra for your changing needs
