Think back to when it was time for your first bra… In the fitting room with perhaps your mum, grandma or auntie – did you feel so self-conscious that you wanted the ground to swallow you up, or were you desperate to join those other grown-up bra-wearing women?
However you felt, chances are it was a memorable moment in your life. Today, is it your young daughter, granddaughter or niece who has reached that age and you’re both dealing with a mix of confusion, embarrassment and excitement? We’re guessing you want to feel confident that you’re guiding them to the best bras for their developing body, and helping them find the perfect fit.
Firstly, well done for looking after her breasts at just the right time – now! All breasts need the right support, whether big or small, to ensure the breast tissue isn’t damaged, to protect posture and stay comfortable. Luckily, at Royce we’ve been making teen and first bras for over 18 years so we understand the needs of both you and your teen.
As with every Royce bra, all of our teen range is wirefree and expertly designed to provide ‘second skin’ comfort and support for growing breasts. Based on customer and stockist feedback, our range has evolved to meet the needs of today’s teenager – styles such as Skyla were created for a growing need for bras for smaller-framed girls with larger cups; while our designs have increasingly moved towards a modern, athleisure-style look. All our teen bras are available in pale neutral colours keeping them discreet under school uniform.
Feel like your teen isn’t into cutesy hearts and bows? Show her some fresh new styles. We’ve expanded the teen range with a brand new style, an update on a classic, and a new colourway of a best-seller. Say hello to Lola, Sophia and Posie!
Lola is an athleisure-style, crop top bra – it features a racerback, wide underband and double-layered fabric, with high cotton content, for excellent support. Available in dual cup sizing, Lola can also be added to PE kits as a low-impact sports bra.
Sophia, a re-design of Royce’s original Cream & Blush teen bra, features moulded cups and a fuller cradle for an improved fit around the bust and better anchorage for the underband.
Royce’s best-selling T-shirt bra Posie is now available in a new ivory and blush colour twin pack. Like the original it features light padding and optional racerback.
We recommend that your teen has her first fitting with a professional (check our list of stockists for a fitter in your area). Once that’s done, she can check the fit of any new bras using our special DIY home fitting guide, just for teens. Share these tips with her so she can find the right fit in the comfort of her bedroom, no adults required! (And can we just add that this guide works perfectly for grown-ups too – it’s timeless advice).
The underband should sit in a straight line across your back (take a look in the mirror to check). We recommend you fasten on the middle hook and eye so you can adjust to make it bigger or smaller if you feel uncomfortable – if you can stick two fingers under the band, you’re good to go!
Are your breasts sitting comfortable in the cup with no bulging or gaping? The cups should sit nicely on top of your breasts with the fabric smooth against your skin (no ugly wrinkles or bagginess, please!).
Straps slipping down can be annoying, straps digging in are uncomfortable. Test them by making sure you can comfortably slip two fingers underneath and loosen or tighten until they feel perfect.
Now stand back, jiggle about a bit, find how it feels – adjust if needed.
Looking and feeling good? Well done, you’ve just found your perfect fit!
