Covid-19 has been the major health story of 2020, but another dangerous ā€˜C’ has also been gaining ground thanks to coronavirus – cancer. A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every ten minutes in the UK – and when this happens during a global pandemic, with limited GP visits and all but essential surgery postponed, it can be an extremely distressing time.

At Royce, we never forget that thousands of women are dealing with new or existing breast cancer at any one time. That’s why we’re really proud to be collaborating with Future Dreams again, to help women during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and beyond.

Future Dreams

Future Dreams is a charity dedicated to raising funds for awareness and research into breast cancer, and to support women through their breast cancer journey. Royce first teamed up with the charity during lockdown – a difficult time for us all, but particularly hard for those dealing with major illnesses such as breast cancer. Thousands of women who have had breast surgery or treatment in the past four months have been given a Future Dreams care package, some of which included a specialist post-surgery bra from the Royce Lingerie range.

After having a mastectomy, lumpectomy, reconstruction, reduction or augmentation it is vital to find a comfortable, well-fitted bra – not just to aid healing of the surgery site, but to provide a trusted source of physical comfort and help restore self-esteem. At Royce we’ve been designing post-surgery bras, training and advising fitters, for almost 30 years. If you are about to have breast or chest surgery, spending ten minutes on selecting the right underwear will serve you well for the weeks to come. Here are our top tips:

Get Fitted

Get fitted – It’s important to get professionally fitted prior to the surgery. However, if an in-person fitting isn’t possible, you can fit yourself at home using Royce’s online guide. We recommend going up a band size to allow for swelling.

Fit Guide

Go Wirefree

A wirefree bra will offer greater comfort immediately after surgery, it will also put less pressure on the delicate chest area.

Choose details for comfort

You should be looking for a secure full coverage shape with a deep centre and underarm edges to avoid irritating the surgery site. Front-fastening bras will also make putting on or removing your bra much easier.
